Female and hair loss
Hair and coiffure form an important part of our appearance. Unfortunately not only male face problems of hair loss and baldness, but female can face them as well. After all we live in a very hectic society where too much tension ensures that female at present suffer much from hair loss than in the past.
Causes of hair loss with women
There are various causes for hair loss. Hair problems may be caused by unhealthy life style, stress, hormones fluctuations during pregnancy or menopause or due to old age. Alopecia could also be inherited. In a lot of cases it is normal because hair loss occurs due to change of seasons. Women loose more hair in September than during rest of the year. Even after three months pregnancy hair loss is no exception, or even after menopause. Hair looses its shine, looks dull and hair loss occurs.
There are also other causes than mentioned above which can cause hair loss and baldness with women such as temporary hair loss ( telogen effluvium), hair breaking ( caused by hair styling, pulling etc.), small bald patches ( alopecia areata – an immunity problem which can cause temporary hair loss), medicines and some skin diseases.
Women have, by nature, beside female (oestrogens) also male hormones (androgenen). Higher percentage of oestrogens extends the life span of hair and therefore increases the hair volume. Generally the percentage of male hormones before menopause is low, to cause any signs of alopecia androgenetica.
After the menopause the percentage of female hormones (oestrogens) decreases rapidly. The result is that after menopause, women have proportionally more male hormones and the process of alopecia androgenetica is accelerated.
